VIGNETTES:
Children in School Settings

I was sitting in the library of an elementary school. Suddenly the door swing open and a girl (about 7) was pushed into the room by her teacher. “Get In and stay there.” The teacher said. “Your behavior was disgraceful.”

The girl entered the room crying bitterly. She sat down. The teacher had already left. I waited a few minutes and went over to her table. I asked her what happened. She was so distressed she was unable to answer. I waited a while longer and asked her “what is the weather like? She looked at me and said, “It’s raining.” I asked her what happens after the rain? She slowly answered’ “The sun comes out.” I said, “Yes, the sun comes out. It will come out for you as well.” After that I went off to my assignment.

Several hours passed. It was lunchtime. The storm was over and the sun was shining brightly. I was walking in the hall and saw the girl. I went over to her and asked, “What is the weather like now? She gave me a big hug, looked at me and said “The sun is shining.”

It always helps to encourage children or adults despite difficulties, their lives will shine as well.
