Roberta L. Slavin, PhD, LP : Individual, Group, Child, Adolescent & Family Therapist

About Dr. Slavin

Dr. Slavin worked for many years as a school psychologist.
Her primary responsibility was to administer intellectual and social adjustment tests to students. She found that standardized tests did not always resolve problems and as time became available, she offered assistance in helping teachers and students work together as a whole group. In this situation, students were also invited to make suggestions regarding discipline in the class.

Dr. Slavin was able to run groups for children and teachers that were of great value in alleviating stress. Learning how to work together enhanced the morale and motivation of both teachers and students. She was invited by a principal to run stress workshops for her teachers at lunchtime. The results were excellent!

Dr. Slavin’s private practice also consists of adults and children. Although emotional and cognitive growth follow in a step like order, they do not necessarily occur at the same age. So counseling must start at the child’s level of growth and understanding.

Adults are more able to verbalize and I have worked successfully with many. These include adults who were depressed, overly anxious, impulsive, and destructive. They were able to function at a more mature level after working with me either alone or in groups.
